Free Time Mode Sneak Peek

Hello!

It has been awhile since you heard from me and it’s been awhile since there was an update. This is because I was working hard to create a brand-new addition to the game as well as bring back Saving Progress and such.

Now I am at a stage where everything is in place, I decided to give you guys a sneak peek to the upcoming Hotfix Update which will bring the long awaited FREE TIME MODE!

Note: The Hotfix is currently under development, what is shown is, however unlikely, subject to change.

So here’s what’s coming in the next Hotfix Update:

SAVING HAS RETURN AND IT HAS IMPROVED!

The saving system is back and I figured out how to make one in a way that works and not cause too many errors. What does this mean?

It means that you can save your progress at a certain point of the story, you can turn off your game and come back to the last saved checkpoint.

Checkpoints make a return and they will appear throughout the gameplay in areas such as the middle of the chapter, the end of the chapter, and the start/end of Free Time Mode.

This also means that in order to play Chapter 1, you have to play the Prologue.

And of course, if you wanted to play the whole game again from the start, you can create a New game, but that means you have to delete your current save.

This is also just a starting point of the saving system as I continue to make improvements for gameplay and going to last saved progress. What I don’t want is for players to cheat or do something that would break the game, so I set it in a way where there wouldn’t be any problems… I hope.

New Mode: FREE TIME MODE

This is a mode that was supposed to be released with Chapter 1: Daily Life, but due to saving issues, it wasn’t included,

NOW IT’S INCLUDED, so let’s explain what this mode is.

In the original Danganronpa series, it has Free Time Mode where the player can roam around the map and hang out with other students, explore certain parts of the map, find some secrets and try to improve friendship levels.

Here are the details within CiDR2’s Free Time Mode:

THE GUMBALL MACHINE

As teased in the prologue, Benson the Gumball Machine from Regular Show will be this game’s version of the MonoMono Machine. By spending 1 Monocoin into the machine, you will be given a randomly generated Gift that will be added into your inventory.

You will start out with 3 Monocoins at the start of Free Time Mode, and you can earn more by collecting Dolls or exploring certain parts of the map at certain points of the Free Time Mode.

GIFTS

At the current moment, there are a total of 10 gifts you can collect, each having a different value of preference for each student in the cast. More gifts will be added as the game progresses throughout its development.

FRIENDSHIP LEVELS

Friendship levels are the levels that tell how well you are getting along with the characters, you improve friendship levels by hanging out with them and giving them a gift, the friendship gets leveled up when you start a special conversation with the character.

The maximum level you can have with a character is at Level 5, in the upcoming hotfix you can only go up to level 2. Level 3 and 4 will be added in Chapter 2 and Level 5 will be added in Chapter 3.

Note: Not all characters will be maximized to Level 5 as certain characters will be killed off in certain chapters, meaning the Chapter 1 victim and blackened will be capped at Level 2.

DOLLS

Unlike the Monokuma Dolls in the Danganronpa games, CiDR uses Special Dolls from other cartoon series as Cameos. CiDR2 does more or less the same.

Each Doll is unique and comes from a different Cartoon series, some are from the same series as the Cast, others will be from cartoon series that haven’t made an appearance.

Dolls can be collected by finding and clicking on them during Free Time Mode or reaching certain Friendship Levels for certain characters.

When a doll is collected, you’ll earn 1 Monocoin and the Doll will appear in Huey’s room and stay there for the rest of the game.

It is possible to miss Dolls, Free Time Dolls only appear once and won’t show up again if you pass a Free Time Segment. so be sure not to miss them.

There are a total of 6 Dolls to collect, with more dolls added with each chapter.

(Note for the far future: I am planning for the Maximized Friendship reward to be a Doll version of the character instead of… what you get from the characters in the original Danganronpa game. If you complain about this, you are not welcome here.)

ONE MORE THING

Not related to Free Time Mode, but an improvement on visuals, I have redesigned Phineas’ sprites so the outlines are more fitting to the art style of his show.

Conclusion

The Hotfix is still in development, but all the conversation levels have been written and edited and the first segment out of four for Free Time Mode is completed. The remaining segments will be much easier to put everything together.

While it still needs some time, I plan to release the Hotfix before the end of the year. Once the Hotfix is out, I can start working on Chapter 1: Deadly Life.

That is all for now, stay tuned for more updates.
